Understanding your Personal Breast Density is another great way to be proactive about your Breast Health. We have spoken with hundreds of women who developed breast cancer and had high density levels who believe it would or could have been detected sooner if a breast ultrasound would have been recommended for them.

You can start by learning the facts.

fact 1 - "Over 40% of women have Dense Breast"

There are 4 levels of Breast Density:

-"Entirely Fatty"

Mostly fatty tissue (the lease density level)

-"Scattered Density"

Scattered areas of dense tissue throughout

-"Heterogeneously Dense"

   Dense tissue throughout the breast

-"Extremely Dense

   Mostly dense tissue

fact 2

"As the density of the breast level increases...

the reliability of the mammogram Decreases"

Density, shows up on a mammogram as white in color - which is the same color that can indicate to a Radiologist an abnormality or mass in the breast.

As the breast density level increases the harder it is to identify any abnormality or mass. This is why a Breast Ultrasound may be recommend for women with dense breast.

fact 3

"A breast ultrasound can significantly detect cancer or abnormalities that were invisible by mammography in a dense breast."

Receiving a breast ultrasound each year along with your mammogram (for those who have dense breast) is becoming the standard of care in women's imaging, and is recognized by many state governments and insurance companies as appropriate and necessary care.

There are now computerized systems and technologies out there which can automatically and accurately evaluate your density level as the mammogram image comes on the monitor.
